Manchester United's pursuit of a talented midfielder has now led them to consider a player from Barcelona, the reigning LaLiga champions, as they aim to strengthen their squad.
The Red Devils are in search of a midfield overhaul as they navigate a period of uncertainty regarding their current players. Presently, Michael Carrick has only four senior central midfielders available: Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, and Kobbie Mainoo.
During Ruben Amorim’s tenure, Manchester United employed a 3-4-3 formation that featured two central midfielders supported by dynamic wing-backs on the sides. In this setup, the favored duo was Casemiro and club captain Bruno Fernandes.
However, with Carrick stepping into the managerial role, the team has shifted back to a 4-2-3-1 formation. This tactical adjustment allows Fernandes to play in his ideal position as a central attacking midfielder, while Casemiro and Mainoo are positioned behind him, providing support.
Looking ahead, it's crucial for United to find a successor for the 33-year-old Casemiro, whose contract is set to expire this summer. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte's performance since his transfer from PSG has not lived up to expectations, further emphasizing the need to bolster the midfield.
Recent reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that Manchester United has added Barcelona’s Marc Casado to their list of potential targets. The club is said to have made initial inquiries regarding the young 22-year-old midfielder, but they are not alone in their interest. Wolverhampton Wanderers have also shown interest, aided by their connections to his agent Jorge Mendes.
Furthermore, Atletico Madrid, who are geographically closer to Casado, are also keen on acquiring him, viewing him as a potential replacement for Conor Gallagher. Meanwhile, Atletico is considering Wolves player Joao Gomes, who has also been linked with a possible move to Manchester United in January.
At this moment, Manchester United has decided to delay any transfers while Michael Carrick serves as caretaker manager. They will only proceed with a signing if a long-term target becomes available.
